Caries

People of different age categories suffer from toothache. The main reason for it is caries. What is it?

Caries is a common disease that occurs due to exposure to acids in the oral cavity. The plaque that forms on the teeth contains a huge amount of microbes that dissolve the mineral structure of the tooth. First, caries damages the tooth enamel, then it penetrates into hard tissue (dentin), and root canals and pulps can also be damaged. To avoid complications, it is recommended to consult a dentist on time.

Darkening of the enamel, the presence of plaque on the tooth – the first signs of tooth caries. A painful reaction to cold, hot, sour and sweet foods, bad breath are also symptoms of the disease.

The main causes of tooth decay are poor oral care, inadequate salivation, and frequent consumption of sweets. At the first signs of the disease, it is necessary to seek treatment at the dental clinic, select pastes with a high content of fluoride and calcium, and reduce the consumption of sweets.

Very often, caries develops due to plaque, which forms where it is difficult to reach with a toothbrush: between the teeth, near the roots, in the dental grooves. An early diagnosis of caries will help  x-rays. The dentist will conduct an examination and select the appropriate treatment method. In the early stages, one visit is enough, with serious treatment for caries, two or three visits to the doctor may be necessary.

If necessary, the doctor can anesthetize the affected area, carry out drug and mechanical treatment, then install a protective lining and fill the tooth.

Good oral care and a visit to the dentist at least twice a year are the best prevention of caries and other diseases.
